OTP 2022 Hub - Kilmainham Gaol

Friday 18th March - In-Person

Kilmainham Gaol opened in 1796 as the new County Gaol for Dublin and finally closed its doors in 1924. Most famous as the location of the executions of the leaders of the 1916 Rising,, today the building symbolises the tradition of militant and constitutional nationalism from the rebellion of 1798 to the Irish Civil War of 1922-23. Kilmainham Gaol Museum is operated and managed by the Office of Public Works.

This year the OUTing the Past Ireland Festival is in partnership with multiple institutions across the island of Ireland. It will run across three weeks from 18th March to 10th April and fifteen sites. Kilmainham Gaol will be playing host to the launch of the Festival on the 18th March.
